The goal of the studio is to create authorial projects such as prints, games, mobile applications, and other design work, using either experimental techniques or innovative methods.

One of the foundations of the studio is to turn back to traditional production methods and materials.

The studio's look and feel reflects that quest for artisanal and manual processes. That also reflects the cultural approach: dedicated, thorough thinking behind a successful and innovative end product.

Business card

The business card was silk-screened over wood sheets. For perfect coverage without ink bleeding, two different layers of ink were printed. The bottom layer worked as a protection, preventing the top layer from being absorbed by the wood.

Icon set

We also created an icon set to be used by the studio across multiple mediums.

Logotype

The logotype was based on the ChunkFive font. However, we didn't think the stock font was bold enough for the logo, it was lacking the personality and strength we were aiming for. So we changed every single character: adjusting the way the O bottom and the R leg descend below the baseline, the angles of the V and A, and making the slab serifs stronger.

Design studies

The image below shows some early design studies, including typographic studies and variations of the symbol. On the right are the reduction tests made to ensure the logo stayed legible even at small sizes.

Production tests

Before deciding to use silk screen, we tested laser engraving the business cards. Finding the right balance between wood resistance and color, laser type, and laser temperature proved to be a huge challenge.

Below, two laser engraving attempts on the left, and the final card, silk-screened, on the right.
